Jeffris Family Foundation Awards Challenge Grant to Peter Dougherty Society
Challenge Grant Accomplished
The historic 1842 Dougherty “Mission” house’s restoration was able to move forward thanks to the 2 for 1 Challenge Grant provided by the Jeffris Family Foundation, and the matching donations of many individuals and other foundations. The Peter Dougherty Society received the Grant in June 2013 and was able to meet its requirements by the deadline in December 2015. The Jeffris Family Foundation of Janesville, Wisconsin, has as its mission to preserve the cultural history and heritage of the Midwest through the preservation of regionally and nationally important historic buildings. Tom Jeffris, President, said “The Peter Dougherty Society did an outstanding job on fundraising and was a pleasure to work with.”
The Peter Dougherty Society is a non-profit organization focusing on the restoration and administration of the Dougherty Mission House. In 2006, the house, its historical artifacts, and the surrounding land were purchased with donated funds from individuals and foundations.
The Jeffris Foundation Funds were used for the restoration of the Dougherty Mission House. Maintaining historic authenticity was a priority, while updating to today’s building standards.
